Hammett, PA (May 2, 2021): A very pleasant spring day greeted fans as Eriez Speedway opened for its 61st consecutive season of Super Late Model racing along with five more classes to thrill fans of all ages. When the final checkers had flown Dave Hess Jr had added two more wins to his already impressive resumé, those coming in the Mill Run Collision Center Super Late Model and the Waterford Hotel E-Mods. Also going to Victory Lane were Mike Knight (Nic Dit Trucking RUSH Late Models), Chris Withers (Curtze Food Service ProStocks), Dennis Lunger (Johnson’s Car Care and Collision Economods), Tanner Ramsey (Everhart Ashphalt & E. T. Motorsports RUSH ProStocks), and Andy Proper (L & D Tree Service Challengers).
The first feature race of the 2021 season was for the Curtze Food Service Street Stocks with Chris Withers and Jimmy Kennerknecht, both former champions, on the front row. Withers scooted out to the lead at the drop of the green, leading Kennerknecht, Douglas Eck, Gary Fisher, and former champion John Boardman through lap one. Kennerknecht and Eck were side by side at lap two for second. At half way Withers was leading Eck, Boardman, Kennerknecht, and Fisher. At lap ten Boardman came to third. When the checkers flew it was Withers winning, followed by Eck, Boardman, Kennerknecht, and Fisher. The race ran green to checkers without any caution periods. With Tanner Ramsey the only Everhart Ashphalt & E. T. Motorsports RUSH ProStock to enter, he raced with the Street Stocks and was awarded the ProStock feature win.

The Johnson Car Care and Collision Economod feature started with Eric Reinwald and Dennis Lunger leading the charge to the green. In turns one and two rookie Alex Siekkinnen spun, slowing the race for the only time. When lap one was complete it was Lunger, a seasoned veteran, leading Nate Young, Jarett Young, Garrett Calvert, and Mitchell Wright filling out the top five. Jarett Young had mechanical ails on lap two and pulled off the track, advancing Gary Olson to fifth. The order remained the same throughout the event.

Casey Bowers and Troy Johnson brought the Waterford Hotel E-Mod field to green with Bowers leading to turn four before Dave Hess took over from his fourth-place starting spot. Bowers settled in to second with Johnson third, Shane Crotty fourth, and many time champion Joel Watson fifth. Johnson took over second at lap three. By nine laps into the twenty lapper, Hess had a quarter lap lead. With five to go it was Hess leading Johnson, Watson, Crotty, and Michael McGee. At the checkers of the all-green race, Hess had a 1/2 lap lead over Johnson, Watson, Crotty, and Steve Rex.

The Nic Dit Trucking RUSH Late Model feature started with Matt Latta on the pole and Mike Knight to his right. The field only got to turn two before yellow was out for rookie Logan Jaquay, spun in turn two. When lap one was in the books Latta and Knight were side by side for the lead over Andy Boozel, Darrell Bossard, and Bill Applebee. Yellow again flew at lap two for a spin in turns one and two. At lap five Knight was leading over Boozel, Latta, Applebee, and Scott Gurdak. Jaquay spun again in turn four at lap five. After green Gurdak advanced to third at lap six. At halfway Knight was leading Boozel, Gurdak, Latta, and Bossard. That was the order through to the finish.

The Mill Run Collision Super Late Models pulled on to the track with Dave Hess and Darrell Bossard on the front row. When lap one was complete it was Hess leading Bossard, Greg Oakes, Mike Knight, and Bump Hedman. Ryan Scott took over fifth at lap two but Hedman was again in the spot a lap later. At ten laps Hess led Oakes, Knight, Bossard, and Hedman. At the finish Hess was in Victory Lane for the second time with Oakes second, Knight third, Bossard fourth, and Hedman fifth. This feature also ran green to checkers with no interruptions.

The final race of the night was for the L & D Tree Service Challengers with Rick Feely and Brandon Huffman on the front row. Feely led lap one followed by Huffman, Nick Robie, Andy Proper, and Tommy LaBarbera. Huffman got by for the lead at lap three. By halfway it was Huffman, Robie, Feely, LaBarbera, and Chris Horton. Andy Proper came up to second at lap seven, then to the lead at lap nine and going on to the win over Robie, Feely, LaBarbera, and Jessica Harvey.
