WVMS Reschedules July 4th Balzano Memorial To August 6th

(Middlebourne, WV) Fresh off the heels of a highly successful inaugural “Historic 100” the team at West Virginia Motor Speedway have planned even more improvements for the 5/8 mile facility. The ‘mecca’ of dirt racing in the Mountain State, WVMS, continues its active pursuit to return to the spotlight of the sport with on-going improvements and further modernization. New LED lights were installed and on display during the Historic 100 weekend with an all-new “wireless” PA system operating for the fans sitting along the back stretch. Those improvements closed out “phase one” of the speedways rebuild projects with action set to get underway soon on “phase two” plans.
In saying, the West Virginia Motor Speedway team has elected to postpone the July 4th scheduled “Mark Balzano Memorial” at this time. “A number of factors weighed into this difficult decision” stated promoter, Cody Watson. “At the top is on-going speedway improvements. The extended lay off will give us the time and weather to continue fan friendly upgrades at the speedway” added Watson. “With Beckley posting a $20,000 to win Late Model show on the same day I feel it’s going to be in area race teams and our best interest to reschedule our event” continued Watson. “Also, like many other industries, fireworks supplies and fireworks companies are also very limited due to global shipment issues, demands and last years covid pandemic. That would have greatly reduced our capabilities to put on a outstanding fireworks show for the fans. Which is something we want to pride ourselves in” concluded, Watson.
A huge pyro and fireworks display is now slated for July 24th as part of a full evening of monster truck drag racing action.
The former $5K “Mark Balzano Memorial” LM Special will now see its purse increase to $10,000 to win and be ran on Fri. August 6th as part of the “World Race of Champions” weekend at the speedway. The Friday & Saturday August 6th & 7th SERVPRO “World Race of Champions” presented by Steve’s Plumbing features the FASTonDirt 410 Sprint Series back at the Speedplant as they compete for a $5,000 to win Friday night purse and a lucrative $20,000 to win Saturday feature. Friday August 6th will now showcase the $10,000 to win 30 lap “Mark Balzano Memorial” as well as the 25 lap $5,000 to win FAST 410 prelim to Saturday’s $20K to win finale. Furthermore, the true under card to that event was scheduled to be the UMP Modifieds, that will now switch over to the regions Sport Mod division. Sat. August 7th will be 20 laps and pay the SERVPRO World Race of Champions Sport Mod winner $2,000 dollars!
Moreover, speedway officials have restructured a few of the remaining events too. Sat. September 18th’s “Riverhawk Rumble” has been removed from the schedule. Plus, classes and purses for RaceFest weekend are being slightly amended. UMP Modifieds will now go for a 25 lap $5,000 to win A-Main on Saturday October 9th. Steel Block Late Models have been removed from the card. SCDRA Compacts will compete for $2,500 to win as originally scheduled. OVS Sport Mods will run heat races on Friday with their A-Main now paying $3,000 to win on Saturday. TCS Hotmods will compete on Saturday Oct 9th paying $1,000 to win.
