Monroe Center, OH (June 17, 2022)
Fans and racers were accommodated by pleasant Northeastern Ohio summer like weather, along with another action packed night of racing, to get night #5 of 2022 in the books.
Brian McGarvie made it 3 out 5 in the Sunnyside Farm transit Mini Stocks. Paul Davis picked up his first Raceway 7 win of 2022 in the Campbell’s Mini Storage Street Stocks. Jeremy Double picked up win #2 in the Lakeview Ford Econo Mods in a thriller. Billy Henry dominated the RUSH Crate Late Models main. And, Dustin Demattia scored his 2nd career Raceway 7 victory in the UMP Modifieds.
First on the docket was the Sunnyside Farm Transit Mini Stocks. Phil Powell would take control at the drop of the green. Lap 2 would see Powell, Shawn McBride, and previous weeks winner Jordan Wheeler go three wide in turn 4 for the lead. Lap 3 would see McBride overtake Powell for the top spot, with 3rd place runner Wheeler moving into 2nd. The race would lose leader McBride on lap 4 giving over the top spot to Wheeler. Wheeler would start pulling away the next 4 laps, looking like he would be bringing home back to back wins, until Wheeler would slow going down the backstretch, coming to a complete stop in turn 3 ending his night. The lap 9 restart would see 2nd place runner McGarvie overtake the new race leader Powell, and go on to score his 3rd Raceway 7 win of 2022. Derrick Randolph would get around Powell on the final lap for 2nd. Powell, Cale Sousa, and Austin Richards would round out your top 5.
Next to hit the 7/16 of a mile semi-banked clay oval was the roaring Campbell Mini Storage Street Stocks. Veteran Paul Davis would jump out to the lead from his pole position and never look back. Best race of the feature event was between, Kyle Zimmerman, and Jamie Duncan. The two pilots would swap positions numerous during the first 9 laps of the event. Chris Withers would finally find the momentum he needed to over take Zimmerman, and Duncan on lap 12 to secure the 2nd position behind Davis. Davis would easily cross the stripe to pick up win #1 of 2022, Whithers, Zimmerman, Duncan, and Jacob Wheeler rounded out the top 5 spots.
Probably the most exciting feature event of the evening would be the always competetive Lakeview Ford Econo Mods. Youngster Jacob Eucker would lead the field down into turn 1, at the drop of Mark Osburn’s green. The Battle was on as Eucker, and June 3rd winner Jeremy Double would put on a classic duel for the lead, with the two Young Lions batteling for the top spot. 2021 Champion Jarett Young would join the mix overtaking Garrett Calvert for the 3rd spot on lap 4. Lap 9 and Lap 10 would see Double pull even in turns 1 & 2, with Eucker still holding a slight edge. This would remain the battle until the final lap coming out of turn 4 when the lapped car of Donald Watson, that was running the middle groove, making the leaders change their line on the race track. The duo would split the lapped car heading for the checkerds, with Double edging out Eucker by a mere 0.040 at the line. Double would head to victory lane with his 2nd Raceway 7 win of 2022, and his 5th career Raceway 7 Econo Mod victory. A dejected Eucker would take home the runner-up spot, Jarett Young would secure 3rd, Mitchell Wright 4th, and Judson Fell who was the races hard charger finished 5th.
Next up would be the Evergreen Lake Park Campground RUSH Crate Late Models. Pole setter, and Conneautville native, Billy Henry would take the point at the outset, with Breyton Santee, and June 3rd winner Josh Ferry in towe. Henry’s only threat during the race, was when 2nd place runner Dennis Lunger and Henry would come together momentarily in turn 3, during the lap 11 restart. Henry would cruise the rest of the way for his first Raceway 7 win of 2022, and his 4th career Evergreen Lake Park Campground RUSH Late Models win at Raceway 7. Everyone’s eyes were on the great late race battle between Ferry, and Lunger. Ferry would edge out Lunger for 2nd. Long, and young Devin Henry would complete the top 5.
The nightcap would be the ever so popular Whelen Engineering UMP Modifieds. The 17 car field would see the Renagades Of Dirt Series traveler Alyssa Rowe amongst the competitors. At the drop of the green Dustin DeMattia would take the lead heading into turn 1 with Bud Watson glued to his rear bumper. With Demattia in control, Lap 4 would see 5th place starter Nate Young take over 2nd from Bud Watson. With the top 2 positions staying the same for the next 7 laps, 9th place starter, and 2021 track champion, Joel Watson would grab the 3rd spot from Bud Watson on lap 12. DeMattia would have no serious challenges the rest of the way to pick up win #1 of 2022, to match his other Raceway 7 UMP Modified victory back on August 27th of last year. Joel Watson would make a daring move in lapped traffic to take 2nd away from Young on the final lap. Bud Watson, and Casey Bowers would round out your top 5.
