Another Race Season; By JT Morrison

Another race season is upon us. I have been going to the races for 35 plus years and although many things have changed, some good, some bad, I still get the same excitement every year when the season is ready to start. I usually call it quits in October and start back up in early April, however today there really is no off season anymore. Racing is in my blood and it is something that will always be a part of my life. I credit that to my uncles who were racers that I would go watch and even help with the car at one point. I was hooked from the start. Being a dad now I can’t wait to take him to the races for the first time. His mom also likes the races so I am hoping he will like them as well so we can enjoy something special together and make some lifelong memories.

Anyhow, this will be my 8th year videoing the races for OVDTR.com. Kyle is my best friend and we met through racing long before I even started helping him out with OVDTR. It has been a lot of fun and a lot of memories made at the races over the years and many beers have been consumed lol. I enjoy videoing the races very much. I am by no means a professional but I think I do very well from starting from scratch and using low budget equipment. I take great pride in making sure I do great work and I get great satisfaction knowing that the local racers, fans, and promoters appreciate our efforts. Bringing some media exposure to our local racing is a cool thing to be a part of.

Track schedules are being released as we speak and looks like another good year with lots of exciting races to choose from all around the Ohio Valley area. From Sprint Cars to 4-Cylinder specials, it looks like there will be plenty of action to choose from. Make sure to check out the master schedule on www.OVDTR.com for race schedules for all the tracks around our area. So, with that being said here are some races I am looking forward to covering for OVDTR and some I will just enjoy attending as I usually only cover local regular events for OVDTR.com.

I am a diehard dirt late model fan but I enjoy watching all classes just the same. Really looking forward to seeing the BOSS non-wing sprint cars at Ohio Valley Speedway and the Hilltop Speedway this season. Trips to West Virginia Motor Speedway for the Lucas Oil sanctioned Historical 100 and Eldora Speedway for the Dream 100 are also in the plans. The Steel Block Late Model Series at Midway Speedway I will attend as well. I am a big fan of the series and Midway Speedway is the track I grew up going to. The Keith Barker Memorial at Ohio Valley Speedway at the end of August is one I try not to miss. He was a fellow race buddy so it is always a special night!

These are just some of the races that I am planning to attend this season. You can’t go wrong with wherever you choose to go watch some racing action. Just be sure to get out to your local tracks and support them. Short track racing is a great sport. I have made many friends and many memories from it. Looking forward to another great season. Hope to see you at the track!

See you at the races,

JT
