Stoystown, Pennsylvania’s Carmen Perigo made the tow to Ohio Valley Speedway on Friday night and he made the trip count. The sprint car veteran scored a clean sweep, quick timing his group, winning his heat from the fourth starrting spot, and then leading all 25 laps of the main event to score his second career win in MPD Racing BOSS tour competition.

Very few tracks in a 5 state area even attempted to race the entire weekend. Ohio Valley Speedway and their staff deserve a ton of respect for not canceling based on the forecast. The threatening weather did limit the car count though with 18 sprint cars on hand but still, an excellent crowd as always when sprint cars are at the Valley.

It was Parker Frederickson of Kokomo, Indiana setting overall fast time with a 15.591 to lead group 2 qualifying. Perigo and Dallas Hewitt were fastest in groups 1 and 3 respectively. Heat races were won by Perigo, Frederickson and Korbyn Hayslett.

The 25 lap main event began with a unique pace lap. The BOSS tour’s own variation of the “missing man” formation. The 4 wide salute to the fans saw the outside front row, (the four spot) “open” in honor of Justin Owen and his number 4j. His father approving because Justin loved to be “on the high side”.

With starter Matt Amick’s green flag in the air, Perigo and Cody Gardner led the field into the first turn and would proceed to put on a battle for the top spot for more than 15 laps and through 3 caution flags. On the restarts, Gardner would throw everything but the kitchen sink at Perigo, able to draw alongside and steal the lead briefly off turn 2 on one occasion.

Behind the lead pair, fans were captivated watching Parker Frederickson, Korbyn Hayslett, Dallas Hewitt and Ricky Lewis playing a game of who can kiss the fence in turns 1 and 2. Hewitt and Lewis started 15th and 17th respectively and had to make some bold moves in their drives to the front.

A late race caution flag bunched the field one final time and the top of the race track had really come in. Perigo was still able to hold on for the win, but the freight train of rim-riders were rolling to the front as Frederickson, Hayslett and Lewis all got past Gardner who held on for fifth at the line. Dustin Ingle, Jesse Vermillion, Rylan Gray, Greg Mitchell and Isaac Chapple rounded out the top 10. A special thank you to a West Virginia sprint car fan for sponsoring the night’s heat race and bonus money!

Next up for BOSS is the 2 day weekend May 5-6. It will be the tour’s first ever appearance at the Hilltop Speedway in Millersburg, Ohio and on Saturday they will move on to the Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, Ohio.
