Matt Sponaugle Wins Bedford Friday

Bedford Speedway returned to Friday night racing this week, with a full racing program headlined by the Super Late Models. Matt Sponaugle claimed the victory with a late race pass to claim his 10th Bedford Super Late victory. In other action Lane Snook won the Late Model Sportsman main, Garrett Keifer was the Semi Late winner, Charlie Clise won the Pure Stocks and Tom Brady won the Four Cylinder nightcap.

Shawn Shoemaker was the initial Late Model winner from his outside front row start, running away while the field fought behind him. Tim Smith moved to second, being chased by Sponaugle from his sixth starting position.

Sponaugle moved up to second around Smith on lap 15 and began his pursuit of Shoemaker Sponaugle was soon joined by Trevor Feathers, who had started deep in the pack and also had survived an early race near spin to arrive in third. Those three fought for the lead for several laps with Sponougle getting the front spot with an outside pass coming out of turn two with three laps left. Showmaker managed to hold off the hard charging Feathers who had to settle for third after his charge through the field. Levi Yetter and Bryan Bernheisel were heat winners.

Kyle Lear and Bryan Benton were the front row of the Late Model Sportsman feature. They jumped away while Lane Snook from fifth and Spike Moore from seventh tracked them down. Snook, the winner of several Bedford events last season was able to get by the field to claim his first win of the season. Snook and Lear won the heats.

Kyle Deneen led the Semi Late event from the pole racing tough with Garrett Keifer for the first several laps, until Keifer got by with 5 to go to claim his first ever Bedford Semi Late win. Keifer and Deneen won the heats.

Charlie Clise started forth in the Pure Stock main, leading the distance to take the checkers, Kyle Beckett and Madison Miller won the heats.

Tom Brady, usually used to starting deep in the field due to his historically high point average, was awarded a front row starting spot in this pill draw event and he made the best of it by leading the 4 Cylinder event for the distance. Brady, and Jason Diehl won the heats.
