“Fast” Freddie Picks Up Holmes Tire Late Model $1,500 To Win

With 103 cars in the pits and fans filling the stands, the night’s events, including the Holmes Tire late model $1,500 to win special, was sure to please a fan of any age.
With 21 cars, it was Rick Bond setting fast time in the late model division with a 14.524. Heat race winners were Rick Mardis and Don Conley with Kyle Moore picking up the dash and Matt Samples claiming the last chance race.
Setting the pace for the $1,500 to win feature event was Moore, with Mike Basich on the outside. Jumping to an early lead was Moore, while “Fast” Freddie Carpenter was making his way through the field up to second. A caution would bunch the field back up and allow Carpenter to challenge Moore for the lead. As the two battled side by side, trouble for Moore would cause him to go through the infield and lose positions, placing Carpenter in the lead. However, “The Flying Ace” Corey Conley, working on a repeat of last year’s $1,500 to win, would put the pressure on Carpenter. Battling one another to the checkered, it was “Fast” Freddie edging out, picking up his 2nd feature win at Hilltop Speedway followed by Corey Conley, Ty Myers, Rick Conley and Rick Bond.
The JPR Auto and Tire, Winning Edge, and A&B Roofing and Construction mini wedges had a field of 18 for their first week at the Hill. Picking up each of the heat races was Zoe Stafford and Karyssa Beagle with Jason Wright winning the last chance race. With the feature set, it was Stafford who would take the lead; however, Beagle was right on her bumper. The two would battle lap after lap, with Beagle taking the lead. However, after a restart, Stafford was able to surpass Beagle and reclaim the lead, picking up the first mini wedge feature of the season. Third went to Braxton Wilson, fourth to Donny Danley, and fifth went to Kyla Dillon.
The Finish Line Auto Body modifieds were next to roll onto the track with a field of 21. Setting fast time for the night was “The Outlaw” Jesse Wisecarver with a 15.581. Picking up the heat races was Scott Peltz and Todd Swim while Wisecarver won the dash and Darrick Hubbard Jr. the last chance race.
Leading the field down the backstretch, it was Wisecarver setting the pace with “Rockin” Robin on the outside. As the green dropped, Wisecarver would take the top spot while Chris Basich claimed second and Duston and “The Stalker” Jon Sluka battled it out for third. A caution filled feature would account for a number of surprising outcomes. With Wisecarver out front, Sluka would work on Basich for second and Jimmy Smith worked his way from the tail through the field to fifth. However, as the battle for second ensued, “The Outlaw” uncharacteristically would spin coming off of four causing him to go pit side. In addition, troubles would also send Basich pit side placing Sluka in the top spot. With the green back out and Sluka out front, the battle for second between began between Scott Peltz and Jimmy Smith. As Smith advanced passed Peltz, he worked on closing in on Sluka, yet, he was unable to surpass “The Stalker” who would go on to pick up the win. Rounding out the top five was Robin Duston, Scott Peltz, and Todd Swim.
The Holmes Pest Control Street Stocks had a field of 17 with Mike Lonas setting fast time at 16.307. John Wilson and Denny Shear would pick up each of the two heat races with Mike Lonas claiming the dash. As Lonas set the pace to the start, he would jump out front and remain, regardless of the pursuit by Bob Daugherty. Thus, the seemingly undefeatable Mike Lonas would go on to pick up yet another feature win followed by Bob Daugherty, Dave Potts, Jon Preston, and Bob Chilcote.
The modlite division had a field of eight with Nick Crider picking up the heat race win placing him on the pole of the night’s feature event. Coming to the green, it was Crider out front and that is where he would remain going on and picking up the win. Finishing second was Kacy Campbell, third Joe Burkhead, fourth Bryan Stuhldreher and fifth to JB Burton.
The Bugs-R-Gone trucks featured two heat races with wins going to Travis Winterringer and Joey Heyder. As Winterringer brought the field of 11 to the green, he and Rolly Heyder would battle for the lead where Heyder would advance. With Heyder out front, Winterringer and Joey Heyder would battle for second with Winterringer claiming the position. As the laps dwindled, Winterringer would challenge again for the lead. However, unable to capitalize, Rolly Heyder would go on to remain undefeated so far this season. Second went to Travis Winterringer while Joey Heyder, Jerry Gardner, and Tom Garlick rounded out the top five.
Rounding out the night’s events was the Winning Edge Auto Body mini stocks with 25 cars. Heat race winners were Colton St. John, Mike Beckert, and Michael Rose with Trae Schonauer picking up the last chance race. With the field set, the green was out and a three way battle for the lead ensued between Colton St. John, Michael Rose, and Jerry Adkins. Lap after lap the three tried to edge out over one another. Trouble would send St. John pit side while the battle continued between Rose and Adkins. With the laps dwindling, Adkins worked his way around Rose to pick up the win. Rounding out the top five was Blaine Markey, Blake Heyder, and Trae Schonauer.
