Potts Breaks Streak And Picks Up $1,000

With the sun shining, fans filling the stands, and 107 cars in the pits, racing action was sure to excite at the Hill for the $1,000 to win street stock invitational.
The Holmes Pest Control Street Stocks had a field of 17 for the night’s $1,000 to win invitational. Setting fast time in the 21D Bob Daugherty with a time of 16.938. Picking up the heat win was Bob Chilcote with the dash win going to John Wilson placing him on the pole for the night’s feature event.
Bringing the field to the start of the 20-lap feature was Wilson with Bob Daugherty on the outside. Jumping out front was Wilson, who would work lap for lap maintaining that top spot. After leading the first 19 laps, Wilson would take the white flag, then trouble would strike sending Wilson to the wall bringing out the caution. With the field reset, the green was back out with Kevin Potts on point for the one-lap shootout. Picking up the $1,000 to win and breaking Mike Lonas’ win streak was Kevin Potts followed by Dave Potts, Trae Schonauer, Jon Preston, and Quinten Lewis.
The JPR Auto & Tire, Winning Edge and A & B Roofing and Construction Mini Wedges had a total of ten wedges with Braxton Wilson and Zoe Stafford picking up each of the heat wins. With Wilson setting the pace to the green, their 10-lap feature was underway. Out front was Wilson with Zoe Stafford running second and Karyssa Beagle working her way from sixth to third. Nevertheless, going on to pick up yet another win this season was “The Dominator” Braxton Wilson. Finishing second was Zoe Stafford, third Karyssa Beagle, fourth Donnie Danley, and fifth Reece Bollinger.
Next to roll onto the track were the Holmes Tire Late models with a field of 17. It was “The Flyin’ Ace” Corey Conley setting fast time with a 14.772. Heat race winners were TJ Watson and Matt Samples with “Chargin” Charlie Duncan picking up the dash win.
As the green dropped, it was Kyle Moore, sitting on the outside pole, who would take the top spot over Duncan. Lap for lap, the battle for position would continue when trouble for Moore would bring out the caution and send him pit side for the night. With the field reset, it was “Chargin” Charlie Duncan who would bring the field back under green and ultimately pick up his first win at the Hill this season. Rounding out the top five was Corey Conley, Ty Myers, TJ Watson, and Rick Conley.
With an 18 car field, it was “Rockin” Robin Duston setting fast time in the Finish Line Auto Body modifieds with a 16.292. Picking up heat race wins were “The General” George Lee and “Stormin” Norman Aronhalt with Chris Basich picking up the dash placing him on the pole for the night’s feature event.
The field was set for the 20-lap feature with Chris Basich and DJ Cline on the front row. With the drop of the green it was Basich taking the early lead. Right on his bumper looking to take over the top spot was Cline. After getting around Basich, Cline separated himself from the rest of the field going on to pick up his first win at Hilltop Speedway this season. Second went to Chris Basich, third went to Jimmy Smith, fourth to George Lee, and fifth went to Robin Duston.
The field of ten Bugs-R-Gone trucks featured two heat races with Rolly Heyder and Josey Lillibridge each picking up a win and setting the front row for the night’s 12-lap feature event. It was Heyder setting pace to the green and jumping out front when a caution would come out sending Lillbridge to the tail, in addition, Tim Lillibridge, Joey Heyder, and CJ Muth would all go pitside. With the race back under way, again it was Rolly Heyder taking the top spot going on to remain undefeated so far this season. Finishing second was Travis Winterringer, third Jerry Gardner, fourth Josey Lillibridge, and fifth was Tom Garlick.
The modlites had a field of ten with Nick Crider and Kacy Campbell each picking up a heat race win. With the field set, it was Crider who would bring the field to the green of their 12-lap feature. Out front early was Crider and that is where he would remain going on to pick up the win followed by “The General” George Lee, Kacy Campbell, Joey Sisk, and JB Barton.
With the largest field of the night with 25, the Winning Edge Auto Body mini stocks had three heats with wins going to Jerry Adkins, John Maki, and Blaine Markey. The last chance race win went to Matt Miller. With the green out it was Adkins who would jump out front. However, caution would come out as the hood on John Maki’s car would come up causing him to hit the wall and roll. With the field lined back up, the race was back underway. Back out front was Akins, going on to pick up the win. Rounding out the top five was Colton St. John, Tyler Parsons, Jason St. John, and Blaine Markey.
