(Middlebourne, WV) Chamber of commerce weather greeted a packed house of anxious race fans at the Tyler County Speedway in Middlebourne, WV for the Renegades of Dirt Modified Tour season opener. Slated as the opening night of a three race weekend thirty-eight Renegade modifieds signed in to begin their bid for the new Harley-Davidson Motorcycle or $10,101 in cash that awaits the weekends highest points receipent.

Once again a stellar field of open wheel modifieds would take to the tour including racers from eight states; WV, OH, PA, NY, KY, TN, NC, IN, and even as far as New Mexico with Johnny & Stormy Scott of Las Cruces. Jesse Wisecarver of Zanesville, OH would “Rocket” his Rhulman Race Car to the evenings quick qualifier spot with a time of 13.509 followed by Taylor Cook and Stormy Scott.

Meanwhile the remaining roster of modified aces were preparing for one of four heat races each taking the top three to the A-Main. Leading the initial green flag of the season was a familiar face in Jacob Hawkins of Fairmont, WV who would go on to win the first heat over Jesse Wisecarver and Joel Watson. Heat #2 would witness Stanley, NC’s Taylor Cook climb to the top over Rich Michael Jr. and Kenny Johnson with heat #3 of the evening going to Stormy Scott trailed by Shon Flanary and Jackie Boggs. The final heat race of the night would see another Scott reach victory lane, Johnny, with Tyler Evans and KC Burdette in tow.

Action continued to warm up as temperatures cooled with a pair of B-Main events. Immediately jumpout to the early lead was Kyle Strickler, never looking back to take the first of the two “B’s”. John Burdette of Coolville, OH would earn the checkers in B-Main #2 over Nick Corbitt and Chad Smith after a great three wide battle by the trio.

Wisecarver and Cook would lead the who’s who field to the Arizona Sport Shirt’s “A-MAIN” green for the thirty three lap lucrative points opener for the weekend’s unique prize. “The Outlaw” shot to the early point with Taylor Cook wheeling around on him on lap three. The pair set the trend early and often for the night’s A-Main going side by side lap after lap. The duo battled until the sixteenth lap sharing the lead back and forth until something went wrong on the Cook entry forcing an early exit for the Tarheel native.

To add to the excitement Jacob Hawkins was making his charge from seventh. Hawkins wrestled the point away from Wisecarver for the next six laps until Wisecarver wheeled back around to lead laps twenty-eight through thirty. Mechanical gremlins would then grab hold of Wisecarver in the remaining laps which allowed Tennessee’s Shon Flanary to make a late race charge at Hawkins. The duo would duel over the remaining few laps side by side with the 2Brothers Motorsports owned machine barely edging out Flanary at the checkers by a nose.

“We had to work for this one” stated an excited Hawkins while climbing out of the Genesis Shocks, 2Brothers Motorsports, Fastshafts, Outlaw 15 by Shaw. The win continues his dominance on the Renegade tour at Tyler County where he took last year’s “MEGA 100” in dominating fashion, this one didn’t come nearly as easy.

“We love this place” added Flanary. “We’ve ran throughout the country but you’ll have a tough time finding a place as racy as this one. Regardless of conditions it’s just a great race track” he concluded.

The field was rounded out by Rich Michael Jr. from his eighth starting spot, Tyler Evans who would finish with a career best touring finish of fourth, and KC Burdette rounded out the top five.
