Hilltop Speedway Results 4-20-2013

For the second year in a row, the Edge Renegades of Dirt kick off their season at Hilltop Speedway in front of a cold but big crowd with 40 modifieds checking into the pits. Tanner Wilson would start the night by setting the 2 Brothers Motorsports fast time as the heat wins went to Jesse Wisecarver, Kyle Strickler, Kevin Morehouse and Jess Hartman while Rick Aukland and John Sluka posted the last chance races. Wisecarver of Zanesville won the first two features at Hilltop in his own car but tonite drove the UNOH, South Point, and 2 Brothers Motorsports #62. Starting on the outside front row, Wisecarver beat Hartman into turn one but a caution, the only one of the race, for Nascar’s Kenny Schrader who spun Deanna Groves around. The second start saw the same thing as Wisecarver grabbed the lead with Morehouse pulling into second in front of Hartman. Morehouse and Hartman battled for second as Wisecarver would lead but as lapped traffic came into play, Morehouse was able to pull alongside Wisecarver on a couple of occasions but could never find the opening to get around Wisecarver’s machine as he picked his way through the backmarkers and post his third win of the season at Hilltop. Morehouse and Hartman finished second and third as Mark Dickson and Anthony Kincade rounded out the top five.
Doug Drown and Tyler Carpenter were the feature winners in the first two weeks of the Holmes Tire Late Models at Hilltop and those two went at it for the win this week. Charlie Duncan and Carpenter won the heats to start on the front row with dash winner Ryan Markham and Dzugan Fire and Rescue fast qualifier Drown in the second row. At the drop of the green flag, Carpenter jumped into the lead with Drown on his bumper and the race was on as each lap they would out maneuver each other to swap the lead on each lap. As they pulled away from the field, Duncan, Markham and JR Gentry dueled for third with Scott Peltz, Steve Prince and Shane McLoughlin all bunched together. With four laps to go, Carpenter of Parkersburg WVa put his Pro Tech and Kryptonite Race Cars #28 secured the lead from Drown for the last time to pocket his second win in a row. Markham finished third with Peltz and Prince working their way into a top five finish.
Kyle Moore and Ryan Wisecarver won the heats of the Street Stocks to earn the right to start on the front row of their feature but Moore did not answer the bell for the start and that would move Miamisburg’s Brandon Gardner to the pole and he would take the Innovative Graphics, Schaffer Oil, and GLR #27g and drive away from the field for his 40th all time win at Hilltop. The only thing that made it close was a caution flag on the last lap. Jason Jarrett ran second all race with challenges from Bob Daugherty, Kyle Dickinson and Todd Swim as the finished in that order.
Lakeville’s Dustin Daugherty and Jerry Adkins must have been watching the Late Model feature closely as the went back and forth all race long in the Thompson’s Garage Mini Stock Main with Daugherty and his Loudonville Tire #23d edging out Adkins for his first ever win at Hilltop. Jason St. John ran a close third as the chance to overtake the leaders never came about. Brad Hensel finished fourth as last chance winner and 16th starting Jordan James worked his way into fifth. Daugherty, Adkins and Blain Markey topped the heats.
Racing continues next Saturday, April 27th with the Late Models, Modifieds, Street Stocks Mini Stocks, Trucks, and Min Wedges all in action.
