The Powell Family Sweeps the Hippie Powell Memorial At Jackson

In the opening main event of the evening the stage was set for a very emotional and action packed night of racing as Aiden Powell the grandson of Hippie John Powell found his way to victory lane Mini Wedge feature followed by Hunter Danik. Danik won the heat race.
Then in the Street Stock feature a lot of the eyes were on pole setter John Powell Jr as the green flag fell however due to a couple early race cautions the action on the track was spread all the way back through the back. Sixteenth starting Evan Seitz had worked his way all the way up to the second spot by the half way point only to fall out of contention with mechanical issues while the always fast Tommy Mossbarger after having to restart at the tail worked all the way to the runner-up spot behind John Powell Jr. at the finish. Powell family that was jubilant. Between John pointing the checkered flag skyward and Aiden doing his happy dance great thanks was given by a joyful winner for everyone who made the night possible.

In the Late Model division Jackson Ohio Racin’ Jason Montgomery made a clean sweep of the evening as he started by setting fast time then coming out and winning his heat which gave him the pole position in the main event. However the current point leader John Whitney Jr. made him earn the victory as he kept the pressure on Montgomery and once they into lapped traffic the action was not only fast but breath taking as the lead duo worked their way through the field. As they were putting on their show young gun Tyler Carpenter after not having the results in the heat race he was looking for and started all the way back in 17th position put on a clinic of passing cars to finish 3rd as the checkered flag fell.

An early caution in the Modified feature found the point’s leader Roy Roush restarting at the tail of the seventeen car field. That gave fans action watching Roush come through the field as well as a vicious battle up in front between both of the front row starters Jess Hartman and Tanner Wilson, as the laps wound down the always fast Mark Dickson found himself also in the battle for a top spot and as the checkered flag fell Roush rounded out the top four.

In the Outlaw 4 cylinder feature Steve Cruse jumped to the early lead with Zach Ackley and Dustin Gatwood in pursuit however in the end it was all Cruse with Ackley closing the gap at the finish.

In the Southern Ohio Mini Sprint feature young gun Jake Hesson started on the pole as a result of his heat race win and took full advantage as he led from green to checkers as he had his Foos chassis hooked up and was the class of the field with Todd Wills and Gene Wills in hot pursuit at the finish.

In the Sport Mod feature Steve Cruse put his racer out in front and set it on “Cruse control” as there was a lot of action behind him which was culminated by a high-side pass for the runner up position by youngster Harrison Hall as he found himself with another very respectable runner up finish.

The next 2 weeks will be quiet at Jackson County Speedway as we prepare for our points and season ending event on August 24th.
Then to finish out the regular schedule at Jackson County Speedway on Aug. 24th the AMRA Late Models, AMRA Modifieds, Street Stocks, Outlaw 4s, Mod Lites, Sport Mods and Mini Wedges.
