Strickler Strikes Again For Back To Back Renegade of Dirt Modified Wins

7 min read

(Middlebourne, WV) A beautiful “Friday Night Lights” addition of racing action at the Tyler County Speedway played for a perfect scene for the 2014 Renegades of Dirt Modified Tour presented by Arizona Sport Shirts ‘Ohio Valley’ area opener. A packed pit area that boasted the most talented names in eastern dirt modifieds featuring thirty three lightning fast open wheel warriors from six states and a total pit nearing one hundred and fifty race cars guaranteed a bulging speedway crowd they were in for a special treat on the history making night at the ¼ mile Middlebourne, WV dirt oval.

When on track activities got underway it was Lance Elson of Wellsburg, WV piloting an all new Elite Chassis who would be the only car to tally a time into the thirteen second margin to take the events ‘Fast Qualifier’ award. Meanwhile, in group B, Kyle Strickler would take the top spot with a 14.250 on the clock. Elson would go on to draw a three for the evenings heat race invert procedures.
With the sun was setting and a cushion was forming the ‘Bullring’ was about to roar to life with four Renegade of Dirt Modified Tour presented by Arizona Sport Shirts preliminary heat races. In the Slicker Graphics Heat Race #1 it was the fast qualifier once again leading the way, Elson powered from his third starting spot to the heat race lead later taking the checkered flag. DirtCast.com Heat Race #2 rolled on to the speedway with Trimble setting the pace but immediately Tanner Wilson, Taylor Cook, and DJ Cline applied serious pressure for the lead. In the final laps of the heat Cook would then pull an impressive slider to take the top spot and the win.
Furthermore, ModFury.com Heat Race #3 took the ‘go flag’ and immediately Strickler shot from third to the lead down the back stretch. Going on to lead all eight laps Strickler took the win with a marginal 3.787 advantage over T. Dickson but the last lap battle was for the transfer spot with Patrick Lyon edging Mark Dickson for the final spot. In Karsyns Krusaders Heat Race #4 it was the soon to be dirt modified hall of famer, Bird Wilson who has dominated the “Bullring” high banks for nearly twenty years who would take over the point and lead all eight laps to the heat race victory.
Action continued to ensue in both Renegade of Dirt Modified Tour B-Mains, each attributing race cars with wins in 2014 virtually looking like a who’s who of feature lineups throughout the country. The events 2Brothers Motorsports hired gun Jacob Hawkins of Fairmont,WV harnessed the first B-Main with Brent Trimble and Robbie Evans each working hard to earn their spots in the main event. Furthermore, in B-Main #2 it was Martins Ferry, OH native JE Stalder who would earn the top spot and the transfer into the main event followed closely by Mark Dickson and Chris Basich. Narrowly missing the main in a great three and four wide battle was the 5 of Jess Hartman, Nathon Loney, and ‘The Stalker’ Jon Sluka. Taking the evenings Renegade of Dirt high points provisionals were Tyler Nicely and Tyler Evans.
When the 30 lap Arizona Sport Shirts ‘A-Main’ took to the ‘Bullring’ a stellar and multi-grooved racing surface greeted the ‘The Beasts of the East’ when the twenty car field took to the speedway and fanned out for the famous four wide salute. Lance Elson and Kyle Strickler would lead the field to the green, instantly Strickler propelled through turns one and two using the cushion to perfection in grabbing the lead. From front to back two and three wide racing took over the ¼ mile with Strickler setting a blistering pace. As the laps clicked off cautions were brought out by the 91 of Derrick Ramey who later rallied to a 9th place finish, Patrick Lyon who charged back through the field to 7th, and Tanner Wilson as well as Bird Wilson after the two tangled in turn four. Lance Elson continued to race runner up during most of the main until a late race caution in which broken suspension on the 17e of Elson forced an early and disappointing exit. ‘The High Side Tickler’ would then pilot his Beak Built Chassis, TomCat, JRI Shocks sponsored powerplant of speed to the checkered flag for his second straight Renegades of Dirt Modified Tour win. An impressive Strickler lived up to his nickname putting the BeakBuilt on the cushion and around the very top of the race track in gaining a straightaway advantage throughout most of the A-Main. An excited Strickler exclaimed “We love this place, surface was great where you could really get up around the top and race on it, we also want to thank the tour again for everything they are doing and trying to do for modified racing.” “We are certainly on a roll right now, we hope to keep it going tomorrow night in trying to sweep the weekend. This is awesome, I want to thank everyone that helps on the car, all my sponsors…none of this is possible without all of them.” Rounding out the top five was Rich Michael of Ischua, NY, Jacob Hawkins from 14th in the 2Brothers Motorsports ride, Travis Dickson with another solid & steady performance from deep in the pack, and Brent Trimble of Morgantown, WV.
Tomorrow night the tour heads to the Hilltop Speedway for night #2 of ‘Monster Modified Weekend’ and the annual double header.
