Jared Hawkins Notches 2nd Topless 50 Title At Tyler County

(Middlebourne, WV) A picturesque Saturday Evening greeted eager race fans to the Tyler County Speedway for the 21st Annual edition of the fan favorite Topless 50. A jam packed pit area of 135 talented racers would take to the very racy, wide and smooth ‘Bullring’ in hopes of ‘Topless’ glory. Fairmont, WV’s Jared Hawkins aboard the Rick Sturms Motorsports/ JC Distributing #37 would make his 2015 maiden voyage a success as he outdueled his brother Jacob Hawkins early and withstood a charging Mason Ziegler and Jared Miley to secure his 2nd Topless 50 title. The Hawkins Brothers would lead the stellar field to the green with Jacob blasting to the early lead driving the Bobby Lake #27 with brother Jared in hot pursuit. As the race entered the midway point it was Chalk Hill, Pennsylvania’s Mason Zeigler making noise as the young racer was charging from his 11th starting spot blasting around the ‘Bullring’ topside. As the trio of young racers entered lap traffic a fierce high low classic ‘Bullring’ battle waged between the front three cars with Jared Hawkins finally grabbing the point and would hold off the pesky Zeigler who made several valiant attempts at the race lead to pick up the popular win. Jared Miley would skyrocket from the tail of the field blasting around the extreme high side of the speedway to make a late race charge to 3rd place. Rounding out the top ten behind Hawkins, Zeigler and Miley were Jacob Hawkins, Zack Dohm, Paul Wilmoth, Robbie Scott, Chuck Harper, Steve Wilmoth, and Brian Baumberger. Zack Dohm was fast qualifier, with Jared Hawkins grabbing the dash and heat races going to Butch McGill and Paul Wilmoth.

Shawn Jett of Salem, WV would go two for two on the season as he picked up the $1,000 to win, ‘Topless 25′ FASTRAK Late Model main event. A terrific race long battle between Jett and Kyle Thomas would see the lead duo battle side by side lap after lap. Jett would hold off Thomas by a margin at the line in a terrific race. Following Jett and Thomas to the checkers were Danny Thomas, Jared Miley and Derek Rogers.

A stout field of 20 Two Brothers Motorsports Modifed entrants would take flagman Todd Gorrell’s green flag. A front row of two #17’s of Lance Elson and JE Stalder would set the pace but it was all Martin Ferry, Ohio’s JE Stalder rocking and rolling around the highside to blast to a huge lead and impressive win in dominating fashion. Stalder pilots the Over & Under Concrete Construction/ Last Lap Café/ Ruhlman race car and would hold off Elson, Rex Frohnapfel, Jeff Fornash and Bruce Takach across the line.

Paden City, WV’s Darren Glover would make it two for two on the new season in the EDGE Hotmod division. Glover would hold off a pesky and very impressive performance by young Tiffany Jackson who would grab a career best runner up position ahead of Mick Baker, Roland Bell and Travis Thomas rounding out the top five. By virtue of Glover’s win, the driver of the #8 machine locked up a guaranteed starting spot in the 2nd Annual Workin’ Man World Championship at the end of the season for the EDGE Hotmod division.

Tyler Riggs of New Matamoras, Ohio would notch win #2 of the young season in the Chris Metz State Farm Insurance Modlite division presented by Cedar Run Farms. Riggs would hold off a determined Josh Baldwin, Brandon Fluharty, Randy Kerns and Ryan Saffell to grab the win.

One of the best races of the night would roll off last as the always entertaining Lipps Wrecker Service 4 Cylinder division would hit the high banks. A hotly contested door to door battle would ensue with Wesley Tennant of Proctor, WV piloting the #82 Honda Civic grabbing his first ever Tyler County Speedway feature win ahead of the 5.0 of April Tennant, Scott Critchfield, Jason Frazier and Donnie Wamsley.

In the JJK Mineral MWRA Mini Wedge division a whopping 27 entries would open up the show with 4 heat races and two features with Tristen Borkoski picking up the young racers second win of the season and Dalton Anderson notching win #1 to his resume.
