It was Kid’s Night at Wayne County Speedway with Bounce Houses, Lowe’s Kid’s Clinic, Snow cones and Bike Races with many prizes given away to the youngsters plus Driver Autograph night and Mar’s Trucking $1 Dog night all before the racing action got underway presented by Hoosier Tire Mid Atlantic. Jason Dolick would take the lead from his outside pole position of the Fisher Performance Sprint feature for the opening two laps when Mitch Harble would power past. Dolick would bring out the first caution as he spun in turn four on lap five. This would put points leader Brad Haudenschild into second with Danny Mumaw third followed by Jimmy Pooler and Clay Riney who brings out the caution three laps later as he stopped on the track with a flat right rear. With racing back to green, Harble stayed out front with Haudenschild closing in and on lap 15, Haudenschild powered past coming out of turn two and as they went into turns three and four, Harble tried to slide underneath Haudenschild and they touch tires that sent Harble into a spin to bring out the yellow flag. As racing went back to green, Haudenschild and the Kempthorn Auto Mall, Fire & Ice Pub and J&J Racing ‪#‎38k‬ had clear track with Mumaw, who started 7th, in tow. Thirteenth starting Shawn Hubler was now third with Pooler and 16th starter Jordan Ryan in the top five. The red flag waved with three to go as Bob Lime tumbled in turn three and while the track and safety crew attended to him, Jamie Myers’ car caught fire while stopped, ending his night and a chance at a top five finish. As the race ran off the last three circuits, Haudenschild distanced himself from Mumaw as the Wooster driver chalked up his fifth win of the season with Mumaw collecting his third second place finish. Hubler tied his best finish of third while Ryan took fourth and Pooler finished fifth. Pooler and Haudenschild topped the heats.
The Lias Tire Super Late Model feature would start with pole sitter Matt Irey setting the pace for the opening lap but Wooster’s Doug Drown would motor past Irey down the backstretch on the next lap and the only thing that would slow him down was a caution for Nate Potts on the next lap. It was all green after that and the Hall’s Auto Sales, Kar Connection and Wooster Glass #240 of Drown was a rocketship and cruised to his 6th checkered flag of the season. The race for second was a heated one between Irey and Ryan Markham as they were never more than two car lengths apart. As the pair came out of turn four for the white flag, Irey and the lapped car of Ben Mott touched as that allowed Markham to slip by with Irey on his tail and as they came out of turn four for the final time, they made contact that sent Markham into a spin and he never stopped. Irey finished second with Markham third with Brad Malcuit and Mott rounding out the top five. Heat winners were Drown and Markham.
Chaz O’Dell would give up his first lap lead to Wooster’s Nick Smith and he would lead the rest of the way for his fifth Aamco Transmission Super Stock win of the season aboard the Hillcrest Trucking, Butcher Block & Deli and Victor Bunt Racing #11. Early lap cautions was the only thing that would slow Smith down. Don Baney looked like he might be able to stay with Smith early but he pulled off with front end problems on lap seven and after that it was a three way battle for second between Jim Nicely, last weeks winner Tyler Thompson and 16th starting Paul Holmes as they kept close tabs on each other before finishing in that order. Cliff Staley worked his way from starting 13th to grab fifth. Smith and Thompson lead the way in the heat races.
Starting on the front row of the Harriger Towing Rush Late Model feature, Points leader and heat winner Charlie Duncan and Ryan Markham would go wheel to wheel for the lead with Markham having the upper hand for the 1st half of the race but when they went by the flag stand on lap eleven, Markham’s power plant soured on him and he went pit side at that point and Duncan of Millersburg, would hustle to his third win of the season driving the Hall’s Auto Sales, Kar Connection and Nationwide Vehicle Protection #240. Last weeks winner, Justin Chance would hold off Eric Wilson for second with Jim Nicely grabbing fourth as Hiram Bachmann his season best fifth place finish.
Early on in the WQKT Mini Stock main, it was a back and forth battle between points leader Doug Hensel and Michael Workman and on a restart after a lap six caution, Shreve’s Michael Workman edged into the lead and Doug Hensel would try every which way he could to take the lead back but came up short. For Workman and his JD Trucking and S M Motorsports ‪#‎41w‬, it was the fourth win in a row. Trae Shoenauer was a close third and first timers Brad Workman and Caleb Spencer filling out the top five. Best in the heat races were Stephen Crowe and Brad Hensel.
Logan Duncan of Fredricksburg took the lead from heat winner Nick Large at the halfway mark of the Mini Wedge feature to put the El Campensino Restaurant, Scanlon Enterprises and Green Leaf Restaurant #015 in victory lane for the second week in a row. Large held on to second as Matthew Moore finished third followed by points leader Billy Dawson and Evan Large.
Chuck Conway has been close a couple of times this year in the Flat Track Carts and Saturday night the Wooster driver led all the way to score his first win. Driving the Ace Transportation, Guerne Heights Drive Inn and Hudcos #44 was followed by Daniel Burkett, Scott Delaney, Jamie Johnson and Steve Reed. Conway also won the heat race.
Drivers were also once again competing for nearly $100,000 of yearly prizes awarded by the Contingency Connection.
A big Sprint Car Doubleheader is set for next Saturday night August 8th as not only the Fisher Performance Sprints will be in action but the BOSS Wingless Sprints will be in action. Plus weekend #3 of the Wayne County Speedway/ Attica Raceway Park Late Model Series is on the racing card along with the Aamco Transmission Super Stocks, the WQKT Mini Stocks and the Wedges and Carts.
