Conneaut, OH (August 26, 2016): On a hot August night the Homak Penn Ohio Championship Series paid a visit to Raceway 7 with series points leader Chris Schneider leading the distance for his second consecutive win in the series. The second visit of the Pennsylvania Vintage Modifieds were led by Chris Ketch while Joel Watson continued his dominance of the E-Mod Victory Lane with his eighth win of the season. Chad Wright, Eric Reinwald, and Bud Sergeff all collected their second feature wins of the season. The Pennsylvania Vintage Modifieds, a ‘throwback’ to the early history of Raceway 7, had a display of machinery on the midway, capturing the attention of the fans.

The Bonnell Collision Service E-Mods started their feature with Dan McDonald and Jesse Gould on the front of the fifteen car field. McDonald led lap one with Josh McDonald coming to second. At three laps in, points leader Joel Watson was third. Josh McDonald got by his father for the lead at the end of three just as caution flew for the spun car of Howard Fraley in turn three. The younger McDonald was leading at four laps complete with Watson leading at five laps. Dennis Lunger was second at six laps with Mike Potosky coming to third at nine complete. At halfway the top five were Watson, Lunger, Potosky, Josh McDonald, and Troy Johnson. Caution again flew at fifteen laps when Jesse Gould spun in turn one just as Watson was coming to lapped traffic, eliminating Watson’s half straight lead. Watson then went on to his eighth win of the season over Lunger, Potosky, Josh McDonald, and Johnson. Watson maintained his slim nineteen point lead over Lunger going into the final week of racing next Friday.

The Homak Penn-Ohio Touring Series for the Campbell’s Mini Storage Street Stocks started 24 cars with Brandon Groters and series points leader Chris Schneider at the front of the line-up. Groters lead the way from the green with Schneider second. Schneider pulled even with Groters on lap four but Groters continued to lead at the stripe. Each lap was the same, even on the back straight with Groters edging ahead at the line until eight laps when Schneider led at the flag. At nine laps complete Schneider pulled out to the lead as the he started through lapped traffic. At halfway it was Schneider, Groters, Randy Wyant, Don McGuire, and Chris McGuire holding the top five. Mike Zemcik spun in turn one with fifteen complete for the second caution of the race. Todd Weldon spun to avoid the wreck. For the single file restart the order was as it was at halfway. After green Schneider again led but Tony Spaghetti slowed after dropping his driveshaft right at the flag stand. With one lap left Garrett Calvert came to a halt in turn four, again slowing the event. Once again green flew and once again Schneider pulled away from the field, going on to his second consecutive touring win of the season over Groters, Wyant, Don McGuire, and Bobby Whitling. Rob Bates, even with a dismal finish, has a 97-point margin over defending champion Shaun Fawcett, enough to win the championship for the first time.

Jim “Dingo” Kirkwood and Bob Sloss brought the Pennsylvania Vintage Dirt Modifieds to green but Les Myers had apparent mechanical problems and spun into the infield in turn two. Sloss led the way after green was again over the field but it was three wide for the lead with Sloss, Kirkwood, and former E-Mod pilot Bill Watson by turn four. Chris Ketch was the leader at five laps in with Sloss and Watson fighting for second. Ketch went on to the win over Watson, Sloss, Kirkwood, and Dan Osmer.

Eric Reinwald, a winner earlier this summer, started on the pole for the Bonnell’s Collision Service E-Mod feature with Justin Chaddock outside. Reinwald led Steve Burns Jr at the end of one lap and caution flew at the end of two for debris in turn one. After green Josh Ferry came to second. Caution flew again at three laps when Burns spun in turn one with Mitch Wright and Mike Harmon spinning to avoid contact. At the end of four it was still Reinwald leading Ferry, and Chaddock. Devin Henry, Geoff Conn, and Kyle Reinwald got together in turn three at six laps complete then third-running Chaddock slowed to a halt coming out of turn two, again slowing the race. With ten complete Reinwald led Ferry, Zach Myers, Tyler Frankenberry, and Steve Haefke. Frankenberry got to third at thirteen complete. Myers slowed coming out of turn four with the engine cover up, blocking the windscreen. For the one lap dash for the glory it was Eric Reinwald, Ferry, Frankenberry, Haefke, and Brad Blackshear. Reinwald held off a last turn charge from Ferry for his second win of the season. Frankenberry, Haefke, and Blackshear rounded out the top five. Going into the final week of racing Steve Haefke holds a 36-point edge over Rick Prosser.

The McDonald’s Sand & Gravel Mini Stocks were paced by Derrick Tuttle and Brian McGarvie with fourth starting Hoyt Mihalak leading at the end of one lap. Bud Sergeff came to second at the end of three. Zack Downes was third at four laps in with points leader Jason Easler up to fourth and Kyle Adkins fifth at five complete when caution flew for debris on the back straight. After green Downes and Sergeff were side by side after one lap with Sergeff getting by both Downes and Mihalak for the lead at seven complete. Cale Sousa got into the turn one wall, again slowing the race with the top five being Sergeff leading Mihalak, Easler, Downes, and Adkins. With three left on the race Easler was second and right on the leader’s rear bumper with two to go. On the final lap Easler tried for the lead heading into turn three but got sideways in turn four as Sergeff went on to the win, his second of the season. With an 84-point advantage, Easler has sealed his first Raceway 7 points championship.

The Evergreen Lake Park Campground CARS Crate Late Models had defending champion Chad Wright on the pole position with the August 5 winner Dave Airgood alongside. In turn one of lap one Ed Bolyard spun, collecting Kevin Santee and William Pinckney, slowing the race under yellow. Wright led the first lap with Airgood second and Chris Withers third. Airgood got next to Wright in turn one several times and nearly took the lead but Wright would pull ahead by the front straight. At nine laps into the race Brandon Porter spun in turn four. In trying to avoid contact Wright and Airgood got together but kept going, not losing any spots. At halfway caution again flew when William Pinckney and Kevin Santee got together in turn four with Travis Martineau getting into the front straight wall. Wendall Pinckney and Dennis Lunger made contact in turn four with both spinning at twelve complete, slowing the race under yellow. At fourteen complete several cars got sideways without a wreck but caution flew. Yellow again came out with two to go when Will Pinckney stopped in turn one. Wright sped out to the lead as soon as green was again shown, going on to his second win of the season. Airgood wound up second with Bossard third, Chris Withers fourth, and Kyle Zimmerman fifth. The CARS Crate Late Model point chase tightened with Darrell Bossard advancing to just 19 points (unofficial) separating him from Lunger, leading in his quest for his second championship.
