Blazavich Gets Super Late Win At Dog Hollow

STRONGSTOWN, PA (April 28, 2017) – Defending Townsend Gas & Oil Super Late Model Champion Dave Blazavich picked up his first win of the season Friday night. Shawn Shoemaker won the AMSOIL Pure Stocks for his first victory at Dog Hollow Speedway while Kevin Mahoney won the PA Vintage Modified feature. The three features saw a rain delay hold up the show. As the Lias Tire CARS Crate Late Models where on the track rain came again halting the show.
The Townsend Gas & Oil Super Late feature started with Clate Copeman powering into the lead. Copeman was pulling away from Dan Angelicchio before a caution slowed the pace on lap eight. On the restart Angelicchio kept pace with Copeman and the pair raced side by side. As they completed lap 19 the two touched with Angelicchio sliding into the cement barrier in turn one. He was not injured but the rear clip was bent. This handed the lead over to Indiana’s Dave Blazavich, who went on to score his first win of the 2017 season. Doug Glessner was second over Jeff Sweeney, Copeman and Dwayne Taneyhill. Blazavich and Taneyhill where heat race winners.
In the 15 lap AMSOIL Pure Stock feature it was a four car battle until the last few laps. Shawn Shoemaker, of Mt. Union, led all the way. The four car battle was with Mike Benton, Chad Walter and Kyle Smith, Jr. Shoemaker held of Mike Benton to the his first win at the track. Smith was third over Brad Benton and Amber Mills. Tyler Wagner and Amber Mills picked up heat race wins.
Leechburg’s Kevin Mahoney became the first driver to beat Les Myers in the 15 lap Jim St.John Memorial for the CarSmile Wiperblades ’Thunder on the Dirt’ Vintage Racing Series. Mahoney won at Dog Hollow for the first time over Myers, Jim Kurpakis, David Myers and Dan Osmer. Osmer’s fifth place finish overall won him the Sportsman feature for the series. Myers and Osmer also won the heats.
The Lias Tire CARS Crate Late Models, DM Craig Fabrication & Welding Service 4 Cylinders and 358 Semi Late features will be made up at a future date.
