Altobelli Charges From Ninth To Career First Renegade of Dirt Win!

4 min read

(Middlebourne, WV) – The Boys Were Back at the Hilltop Speedway in Millersburg, OH for the first time since 2013. Overcast skies gave way a to great night of racing action for the Renegades of Dirt Modified Tour, stop number two on the young season. Thirty six Renegade of Dirt Modifieds would sign in for the evenings racing action.

Nick Hoffman of Mooresville, NC would dominate the early going of the evenings events earning the Dickson Racing Shocks Fast Time award then going on to control heat race #1. Tyler Carpenter in the Larry Jarrett #15 would take heat race #2. Heat race #3 would be conquered by Travis Dickson while Heat race #4 would be won by Chris Basich. B-Mains for the event were won by DJ Cline and Brayden Berry.

However, it was the Renegades of Dirt 30 lap main event that would steal the show in the early going. Through the first 20 laps a blanket could be thrown over the top five cars as they dueled side by side all over the oval. Early leader Travis Dickson was battling side by side with Chris Basich, Jess Hartman, Rick Aukland and Rich Michael lap after lap. Meanwhile, Mike Altobelli was making noise. Ninth starting Altobelli was charging to the front as Dickson maintained the race lead. Altobelli applied serious pressure on the race leader with ten to go until a caution slowed the action. Mike Altobelli grabbed the point from Dickson on the restart and never looked back to win the 4th “King of the Hill!”

Driving the Dan’s Auto Body, Harding Owned #95 Mike Altobelli flexed his muscle in the modified ranks pulling off his first ever visit to OTP Industrial Solution Victory Lane with the Renegade of Dirt Modifieds. The feature win was worth $2,000 dollars. A former Late Model racer in the Mid-Atlantic region Altobelli is once again off to a stellar start in 2019 aboard his Rocket by Ruhlman race car. “The car wasn’t any good early on in the night and Travis and the guys they went to work on this thing and wow was it good for the feature” stated Altobelli. “I have to give those guys a lot of credit. Plus you run against this kind of competition, it is talented as most Late Model fields anymore. I’ve won some super stuff but I think this is probably a career win for us” concluded Altobelli.

A race that became a war of attrition in the later stages saw just nine out of twenty two starting cars finish the main event. It was Rick Aukland, Rich Michael Jr., 22nd starting Seth Daniels and Kyle Moore who would round out the top five.
