Frankenberry Wins Two Barrel Rumble At Raceway 7

Conneaut, OH (July 29, 2017): A beautiful night for racing greeted fans as they entered Raceway 7 for the Bonnell’s Auto Group Economod $1000 to win “Two Barrel Rumble” with 22 of the two barrel racers ready for the “rumble”. At the end of the 20-lap turf war it was young Tyler Frankenberry holding the winner’s purse after grabbing the lead at the halfway point. Kyle Zimmerman, a former champion, raced from the back of the field after an early spin to take over at the front of the Evergreen Lake Park Campground CARS Crate Late Model feature on lap seven, then sped away for the win. Joel Watson benefitted from a spin by early leader Gary Eicher to win his second Bonnell’s Collision Service E-Mod feature of the season. After Jimmy Kennerknecht suffered mechanical failure while leading the “make-up” feature for the Campbell’s Mini Storage Street Stocks, Chris McGuire collected his first win of the season. Kennerknecht fixed his racer and then won the regularly scheduled night-capper for the division in dominating fashion, leading from the end of lap one.

The “make-up” Street Stock feature from the partially rained out May 19 was first on the agenda with eleven cars lined up in the order determined by their heats run June 2. Jimmy Kennerknecht led from the green with Jamie Duncan second. Kennerknecht led until lap ten when he suddenly lost power coming out of turn two and rolling to a halt in turn three. Kennerknecht later reported they had broken the rear-end gears. Chris McGuire, who had got by Duncan at lap nine, was the new leader. McGuire went on to the win over Jamie Duncan, Don McGuire, Garrett Calvert, and Gary Miller.

The Bonnell Collision Center E-Mods lined up for their feature with Casey Bowers and Troy Johnson, both winless this season , leading the way. Gary Eicher came from third to the lead in lap one with Johnson second and fifth starting Joel Watson third. After a caution for a spin by Chris Rudolph, Eicher brought the pack back to green with Watson quickly coming to second. Eicher began extending his lead and had half a straight advantage by lap six. Eicher’s run at the front ended on lap seven when he slipped in turn one, winding up sideways on the track and yellow flew again. Joel Watson slipped high in turn two on the first lap of green, briefly losing the lead to Bud Watson. At the half way point Amanda Stiffler spun in turn two, again putting the race under caution. Again turn two proved to be a problem, this time for second-running Bud Watson, spinning for the next caution. Eicher was back up to ninth after restarting at the rear. Bill Taylor spun in turn four at fourteen complete, once more eliminating Joel Watson’s lead. The restart was Joel Watson, Troy Johnson, Mike Kinney, Ken Zimmer, and Eicher. Eicher was third at five to go. Amanda Stiffler and Percy McDonald spun in turn four for yet another caution with a single lap remaining. Watson continued to lead to to the checkers, his second of the season. Mike Kinney was second at the line with Eicher settling for third. Troy Johnson was fourth and Brent Rhebergen fifth.

Wendall Pinckney and Joe Long brought the Evergreen Lake Park Campground CARS Crate Late Model feature to green but Pinckney spun in turn two (Calamity Corner) with Ed Bolyard also getting involved. Chad Sines spun into the infield at the green, negating the restart. Chris Withers led with Khole Wanzer second, then disaster struck on the main straight when Ed Bolyard got into the front straight wall. In the pandemonium that followed Dylan Goodman, William Pinckney, and Brandon Porter got into the outside wall. Pinckney flipped end for end several times. All involved were ok but Pinckney walked to the ambulance where he was checked and released. After a lengthy cleanup the race was restarted but Kyle Zimmerman spun, negating the start. Chad Wright was sent to the rear for his part in the incident but headed pitside. Withers again led with Breyton Santee making a challenge at the end of lap two when Dylan Goodman spun in turn four. Again, only one more lap was in the books when Dave Airgood spun in turn four. Zimmerman, after restarting from the rear just a lap earlier, got to second at lap four and was next to Withers at the line at lap six, then leading on the back straight a lap later. Zimmerman then proceeded to pull away from the pack with Withers and Santee fighting over second. At halfway the front five was Zimmerman, Withers, Santee, Darrell Bossard, and Khole Wanzer. With five to go the advantage was over a quarter lap for Zimmerman, who continued to pull away over the remaining distance, With two laps remaining Joe Long got by Wanzer for fifth. Bossard got by Santee with one lap to go. The top five were Zimmerman, Withers, Bossard, Santee, and Bossard.

The Bonnell’s Auto Group Economods were racing the 20 lap “Two Barrel Rumble” for $1000 to win. Steve Haefke and Eric Wilson brought the field to green with Haefke assuming the immediate lead over Wilson and Bob Vogt. Caution flew at one lap complete when Cale Sousa spun in turn four. Haefke again led to green but coming out of two Mitchell Wright and Geoff Conn crashed hard, slowing the race for the second time. At the end of two laps it was Haefke over Bob Vogt, Wilson, and Tyler Frankenberry. Casey Harmon came to a halt in turn two before another lap was in. Harmon had to be towed from the track. Vogt was second when the next caution came at lap three. On this green Brandon Blackshear came into the top five while Wilson and Frankenberry were fighting over third. Frankenberry was third at six laps while Haefke was pulling away. Then on lap seven Vogt suddenly slowed in turn two, done for the night. At nine laps Kyle Reinwald and Mark Titus came together, spinning in turn one. Ashley Rogers and Cale Sousa wrecked in turn four after the caution was shown. Tyler Frankenberry took over at the front at the halfway point just as Mike Harmon spun in turn four. The field only made it to turn one when Chuck Steinle Sr spun in turn one. At eleven laps Frankenberry led Wilson, Haefke, Blackshear and Eric Reinwald. Blackshear came to third at twelve while Frankenberry was pulling away from Wilson. At fourteen laps Ashley Rogers spun in turn four. Blackshear came to second at green and Reinwald came to third. Blackshear suddenly lost power coming out of turn two and Dennis Dellinger lost a section of body that had been peeling back at fifteen laps. Nate Young came to a stop in turn two with two laps left. At the checkers it was Frankenberry over Reinwald, Wilson, Haefke, and Dellinger. Zach Downes took over at the front of the Sunnyside Farms Transit Inc MinimStock feature at the halfway point to score his third win of the season after staring twelfth.

Kyle Adkins and former champion Brad Cole brought the Sunnyside Farms Transit Mini Stocks to the green flag with Cole leading the way, Adkins second, and Joe Campbell third at lap two. Campbell was the leader at three complete and at four laps it was defending champion Jason Easler second but Zach Downes was second at five laps. At halfway Downes was leading, looking for win number three on the season. At the conclusion of the all green race it was Downes, Campbell, Easler, Adkins, and Cole taking the top five spots.

The regularly scheduled Campbell’s Mini Storage Street Stocks feature was brought to green by Mike Horton and Garrett Calvert. Horton led the way from the start but Jimmy Kennerknecht took over at turn four on the first go-around after starting third. Tony Marotto was second at the end of two laps with Chris McGuire, winner of the “make-up” feature run earlier, third. Kennerknecht was pulling away at lap four but Marotto started closing the gap at lap five while McGuire was challenging for the spot. While Marotto and McGuire were fighting over second, Kennerknecht again started pulling away. His lead evaporated at that point when Jesse Brock and Jamie Duncan came together and into the retaining wall on the front straight. Brock needed towed from the track but Duncan was able to continue. Under caution Jared Larson came to a stop on the back straight and needed pushed from the racing surface. Kennerknecht and Chris McGuire took off at the front again when green flew with Kennerknecht opening a small lead. Kennerknecht went on to his second win of the season over Chris McGuire, Garrett Calvert, Don McGuire, and Marotto.
