Apollo, Pennsylvania’s A.J. Flick drew the worst pill in the bucket and was last out to time trial, but a few hours later, he was first to cross the finish line in the third Pot-of-Gold FAST on Dirt opener at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway. It was his second consecutive win in the event.
The program saw 22 winged 410 sprint cars signed in with Jeremy Weaver pacing the field in group one and setting overall quick time with a lap of 16.624 seconds. His average speed was over 135 mph. Creed Kemenah and Flick were quickest in groups 2 and 3.
Dylan Norris won Ti22 Performance heat one. Two time series champion, Brandon Spithaler, won JLT Enterprises heat two. The third and final heat, sponsored by All Pro Aluminum Cylinder Heads was won by Flick.
Brandon Spithaler drew the pole of the main event with Flick starting alongside. Norris and Mike Bauer rolled off from row 2 with Weaver and Jonah Aumend in the third row. Although Spithaler got the jump on the start, Flick rolled the top of the race track to take the lead off turn 2, a lead he would never relinquish.
Four yellow flags and one red flag would interrupt the race. Creed Kemenah took a nasty ride, flipping in turn one in an accident that also involved Kasey Weaver and Tyler Esh. Thankfully, Kemenah escaped uninjured.
Flick was never seriously challenged for the win as Hanover, Pennsylvania’s Dylan Norris ran second. The first Pot-of-Gold winner two years prior, Tim Shaffer, charged from 12th to 3rd to complete the podium. Spithaler held on to finish 4th with 2020 tour champion, Tyler Gunn, up to round out the top 5. Completing the top 10 were Michael Bauer, Brandon Matus, Zeth Sabo, Logan McCandless and Jeremy Kornbau.
Brandon Matus charged from 17th to 7th to take the Helms & Sons Construction Hard Charger Award. Tyler Esh had a scare in hot laps and a couple of incidents in the main event which turned into getting the Helms & Sons Excavating hard luck award.
The next FAST On Dirt event is slated for Atomic Speedway on Saturday, April 11 paying $4,000 to win and $400 to start. The FAST support series, the all new Gladiator Sprint Tour, will have events April 4 at Tyler County (WV) Speedway and on Friday, April 10 at Ohio Valley Speedway in Lubeck, WV. Both of the Gladiator races pay $2,000 to win and $250 to start. It will also have its own points payout at the end of the season.
