ORRVILLE, OH – Jan. 18, 2013 – The 2013 racing campaign will begin in unprecedented fashion at NAPA Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway.

A blockbuster weekend headlined by the World of Outlaws Late Model Series ‘Buckeye 100’ is set for April 12-13 at Wayne County, providing fans and racers from Ohio and neighboring states a new early-season tradition in the Midwest.

A $20,000 first-place prize from a total purse of nearly $100,000 has been posted for the Buckeye 100, making it by far the richest dirt Late Model event in the nearly 50-year history of Wayne County Speedway.

“We want to have an event at Wayne County Speedway that people circle on their calendars and make plans to come to every year,” said Jason Flory, who is preparing for his second full season co-promoting the track with his wife Kristin. “After talking with (director) Tim Christman of the World of Outlaws Late Model Series, we were able to come up with a date for a big show that we think can really work. We decided to go ahead with the Buckeye 100 this year and try to make it a staple event that everyone looks forward to attending.”

Fans can assure themselves prime seating for the Buckeye 100 in Wayne County’s grandstand when two-day reserved tickets go on sale on Mon., Jan. 28. The advance tickets – priced at $50 for adults and $15 for children ages 6-12 – can be purchased using a credit card (with a 3% service charge) by calling the track office at 330-465-2365 or e-mailing Kristin Flory at Kristinu2@yahoo.com.

The Buckeye 100 weekend will kick off on Fri., April 12, with time trials and qualifying heats for the WoO LMS and the Renegades of Dirt Modifieds plus a full program of WCS Super Stock racing. The grand finale on Sat., April 13, will include WoO LMS B-Mains and the Buckeye 100; Renegades of Dirt Modifieds consolations and a 40-lap feature paying $4,000 to win; and another complete WCS Super Stock card.

The weekend will also include an open practice night on Thurs., April 11, an autograph session with WoO LMS drivers prior to Saturday night’s action and other attractions.

“We’re really excited,” said Jason Flory. “If we could just get Mother Nature to help us out with some nice spring weather, this can really be the show of the year at Wayne County Speedway. With all the great local talent within 50 or 60 miles of Wayne County taking on well-known national and regional drivers, fans are going to see some real memorable racing.

“Last year (on May 25) we brought the World of Outlaws Late Model Series back to Wayne County for the first time since 2006 and the (50-lap) feature went right down to the wire, with Darrell Lanigan passing Tim McCreadie for the win. We’re looking for even more excitement in the Buckeye 100.”

Jason Flory said the “time is right” for Wayne County to host a high-profile, big-money national dirt Late Model event. After the track sat idle for the first half of the 2011 season, it was purchased at auction by Joe McIlvaine and reopened in July of that year under the direction of the Florys, who put their own dirt Late Model driving careers – Jason, 36, is a former Wayne County champion and Kristin, 33, has made a name for herself as one of the country’s top female racers – on the backburner to operate the speedway. McIlvaine, the owner of a truck-leasing business, was close to the Florys as a sponsor of Jason’s racing efforts.

“We love Late Models and believe that Wayne County Speedway is a great place to showcase,” said Jason Flory. “Since we’ve taken over the speedway we’ve had good attendance and some real good shows and we’re excited to give our fans and racers a real big event that will definitely put Wayne County Speedway on the map.”

General admission ticket prices for the Buckeye 100 weekend will be $20 on Fri., April 12, and $30 on Sat., April 13, with kids 6-12 charged $5 on Friday and $10 on Saturday. Children 5-and-under will be admitted free of charge all weekend, and all fans will have the opportunity to watch Thursday’s practice for free from the grandstand.

Pit passes will be $20 on Thursday, $30 on Friday and $40 on Saturday, with two-day (Friday/Saturday) bands available for $65 and three-day weekend passes sold for $80.

Camping (no hookups) on the speedway grounds will be $25 for the weekend.
