The warmest weather of the year brought another big crowd and some more fast racing to Hilltop Speedway Saturday night. Zanesville’s Jesse Wisecarver started the Raceday Photo’s Modifieds night out by setting fast time but it was dash winner Tanner Wilson and Norm Aronhalt leading the field to the green flag for their feature with Tanner setting the pace for the first two laps as Wisecarver pulled into second at the drop of the green. Following caution on lap 2, Wisecarver powered past Wilson on the restart with Aronhalt, Kevin Morehouse and Jess Hartman doing the same. Those three would change positions during the next 6 laps when Morehouse would secure second and begin tracking down Wisecarver at the halfway mark as Aronhalt and Hartman dueled for third. Using the low groove, Morehouse closed in on Wisecarver through the corners but the Decker’s Auto Service and Russ James Excavating #101 would pull away down the straightaways and win his fourth in a row by a couple of car lengths over Morehouse with Aronhalt, Hartman and Wilson following. Lance Elson and Jimmy Smith topped the heats with Beau Bradley claiming the last chance win.
Holmes Tire Late Model dash winner Rick Bond lead the way for the opening five circuits of the feature before JR Gentry took over with Charlie Duncan in third followed by fast qualifier Doug Drown, who timed in at 13.809, less than 3 tenths of a second off the track record. Bond would spin on lap nine and on the Delaware restart, Drown moved past Duncan and challenged Gentry for the lead and took over at the halfway point but Gentry came right back two laps later to regain the lead. Wooster’s Drown, who started fifth, used the highside and reclaimed the top place with eight laps to go and held off the low groove running Gentry the rest of the way to put the Weekley Electric and Wooster Glass # 63 in victory lane for the second time this year. Duncan held on to third as ninth starting Ty Myers grabbed fourth in front of Ryan Markham. Bryan Casey and George Lee won the heats.
With 2 cautions and one red flag happenning before one lap was complete, half the field was eliminated from the Street Stock feature before it recorded the first lap. A four car pile up on the back stretch that saw Bryan Simpson on his side caused the red flag but all driver were OK. Steve Wolford was on the pole to start the race but it was Mansfield’s Kyle Moore charging into turn one for the lead and go flag to flag for his first win aboard the Moore Auto Sales and Hall’s Auto Sales #2. With the win, Moore becomes the first driver to win in three different class’ at Hilltop as he has won in the Mini Stocks and the Cruisers division’s. Bob Daugherty took second from Wolford on lap seven as Wolford had to battle Ryan Wisecarver for third and successfully did with Bob Chilcote rounding out the top five.
Dustin Daugherty was looking for his second win in a row for the Thompson’s Garage Mini Stock’s and led the way for the opening seven laps when Jerry Adkins took over. His lead only lasted two laps as Loudonville’s Jordan James took over from his fourth starting position and then finished out the race in front driving the Lochevale Farms and 1st Choice Stump Grinding #83. Adkins held off Jason St. John for second as Brad Hensel and Daugherty filled out the top five. Heat winners were Daugherty, Adkins and Hensel with Chris Priebe scoring the last chance win.
Warsaw’s Cole Lillibridge repeated his opening night actions by winning his heat and the leading all the way in the Bugs-R-Gone Trucks race for his second win in 2013. Rolly Heyder kept the pressure on the #52 truck of Lillibridge but settled for second as Kevin and David Potts ran third and fourth with Jerry Gardner taking fifth. Travis Winterringer was also a heat winner.
Blake Morris of Zanesville won his heat and then went flag to flag for the win for his second Mini Wedge victory, Heat winners Tanner McLoughlin and Tristen Brown ran second and third with Cadien Black and Zoe Stafford rounding out the top five. Destinie Bates won the second feature over C.J. Kinneer, Logan Duncan, Brooke Dawson and Livia Large.
All six class’ will be in action next Saturday night at Hilltop Speedway
