The Ohio Valley Speedway from turn 4

By JT Morrison

NEWARK, OH – As the 2013 race season has come to an end, I think back to the races I’ve went to not only this year but the last few years. From the national levels of the World of Outlaws and Lucas Oil Series, to a regional show or special, to a regular weekly show at your favorite Friday or Saturday night track. I love dirt track racing and support all the levels and go to as many races as I can during race season. As I sit here and ponder, I can honestly say that for the last few years my decision on where I want to go to the races has been an easy one to make. Now I’m not factoring in cost and travel and all the negatives because let’s face it, if there is a race you really want to go to you will find a way to go. I just choose to stay closer to home and go to a regular weekly show. In all the races I have went to the last few years the best races I have seen have been local shows. I find myself getting more excited to go to these shows then to go see a national race. A great example of this is the Ohio Valley Speedway. An awesome 3/8 mile track located in Lubeck, West Virginia. I can go there every Saturday night and be guaranteed to see some great side by side racing. I will take Andy Bond and Ronnie Mayle side by side all race long over Bloomquist with a straight away lead at a Lucas race any day. The place is always packed and the car counts are always good. There is just something about the old school look and feel of this race track. The atmosphere, the excitement of the drivers and fans. This place really brings out the passion people have for racing. I consider the Ohio Valley Speedway a hidden gem. It may never gain national exposure but that is just fine by me. If you have never been to the Ohio Valley Speedway I encourage you to go. Let’s all go to the Valley!
