Carpenter, Wisecarver Claim 2016 Frostbuster Titles

Despite heavy overnight rains and race day temperatures in the mid 40’s, the Legendary Hilltop Speedway in Marietta opened up the 2016 season in front of a packed house, as the track held the highly anticipated 3rd Annual Frostbuster Special on Friday March 25th. Marking the beginning of the 5th season since reopening, the Frostbuster would draw one of the tracks largest total attendance since reopening in 2012 and fans were treated to an evening of racing in all of Legendary Hilltop’s regular classes to kick off the season, at the ¼ mile track just outside of Marietta Ohio.

With 19 Late Models signed in for the $2,000 to win Late Model special, Zanesville Ohio’s, Devin Moran would capture the $100 Fast Time bonus presented by Curtis Towing and Auto Repair. Moran would keep his #99 machine at the front as he would score a heat race win in Heat #1, while Freddie Carpenter and Nick Latham would both go on to score heat race wins in their respective heats.

The Late Model feature would be an eventful battle that would see Freddie Carpenter jump to an early lead in his Kryptonite Chassis house car over Devin Moran, until a major turning point occurred when Carpenter lost control of his machine and collected Moran, Latham and others. The incident would end both Carpenter and Moran’s night, which in turn gave 2015 AMRA Late Model Champion Tyler Carpenter the race lead, while Nick Latham would also return to the race. Once back under green, Carpenter would set the pace and establish a lead while Nick Latham charged to the second position after battling with Craig Wolford and Corey Conley. Following two late race cautions, Carpenter would fend off the last second charges mounted by Latham and score his first Frostbuster title and the cool $2,000 top prize!

The $1,000 to win Modified portion of the Frostbuster would draw another impressive field of cars to the Legendary Hilltop Speedway, as 19 cars would sign in to do battle in the preseason showdown. 2015 AMRA Modified Champion Jesse Wisecarver would continue in his winning ways by claiming the $100 Fast Qualifier prize presented by Joe Schilling Enterprises. Wisecarver would keep his #101 machine at front and score a heat race win, while Tyler Evans and veteran Frankie Hall would both go onto also score heat race wins.
The Modified feature would see a nearly race long battle between Tyler Evans and Jesse Wisecarver as the two would exchange the lead multiple times and even make contact as they battled through lap traffic. Midway through the race, Wisecarver would capture the lead for good and would not look back, as he would score the Feature win, in front of an impressive top 5 consisting of Tyler Evans, Tyler Carpenter, Rick Venham Jr and Robert “Booger” Garnes.

Also in action throughout the evening would be the Sport Mod division where another 2015 AMRA National Champion would score a feature win, as Lowell Ohio’s Cole Perine would take the win in front of Wayne Shaw and Darin Clark. The newly revamped Street Stock class at Legendary Hilltop would see Tim Arnold claim the feature win in his #11A machine and Robert Frahnapfel score the 4 Cylinder feature win. Also in the Mini Wedges, Tristan Borkowski and Rusty Barker would claim feature wins.

Legendary Hilltop will return to action this Friday Night (April 1st) and feature a regular night of racing in all divisions. The event will be the first point’s race for both Legendary Hilltop and AMRA National divisions.
