(Middlebourne, WV) The 2016 Tyler County Speedway season started off in grand style as the track played host to their annual pre-season practice on a gorgeous Easter weekend. Dubbed ‘Stand on it Saturday’ by the Hometown Racing Promotions team, ‘the Bullring’ played host to well over a hundred race teams. Superb track conditions beckoned teams to find the limits of their equipment, and the day’s fastest lap time in each of the track’s divisions resulted in the winning driver being rewarded with an opening night pit pass courtesy of the track management.

Sonny Conley blistered the high banked quarter mile with the days fastest time, a 13.367 second circuit, as the popular New Martinsville, WV driver picked up honors in the ‘J&R Excavating Late Models presented by Midcap Land & Timber’, and young Lost Creek , WV ace Tyler Stutler wasn’t far off in recording the quick lap of 13.975 seconds for the FASTRAK Crate Late Model division. Belpre, Ohio’s Tommy Powell bested early quick timer Mike ‘Bird’ Wilson’s early effort, recording a class best 14.297 which took top honors in the stout 20+ car ‘2 Brothers Motorsports’ AMRA modified division field.

The ‘Gear2 Graphics presented by Poske’s Performance Parts’ EDGE Hot Mods earned top honors for car count on the day, and proved to be highly competitive as 4 different drivers held fast time during the day. Darren Glover set the initial time to beat before Stevi Magyar muscled past. Magyar was bested by Lou Ennis’s effort, but his stay as king of the hill only lasted briefly as Sardis, Ohio’s Brian Butler shaded his effort with the class best lap of 15.910 seconds. 29 EDGE Hot Mods took time and appear to be readying to take advantage of promoter John Watson’s offer of dual features on regular race nights for the class. Young Daniel Eddy debuted a new car with impressive results as the Pennsboro, WV hot shoe laid down a 15.009 lap time that topped the ‘Chris Metz State Farm Insurance Mod Lite’ division presented by Cedar Run Farms, and Scott Critchfield bested the front wheel drive 4 cylinders with a lap of 16.667 seconds.

With a highly successful ‘Stand on it Saturday’ now in the record book, the anticipation now ratchets up for the 2016 season opening race coming this Saturday Night, April 2nd. The pit gates will swing open at 3pm, an hour earlier than normal to assist in opening night pill pull, registration and tech. General admission is just $10, while children 10 and under are free, with pit admission priced at $30.
The month of April promise to be action packed, as the rescheduled 2015 Earl Hill Memorial will highlight the April 9th racing program. The ULMS Late Models will bring the top names in the PA-NY Late model circuits to battle the region’s best in the $5k to win event commemorating one of the best known and most loved names in the track’s history.

A rare Thursday Throwdown will also take the green at the ‘Bullring’ on April 14th as the Renegades of Dirt Modified Tour kicks off the 2016 campaign with the running of the Heritage 101, as the tour will visit three tracks during the weekend with the top point finisher riding off on a new Harley Davidson motorcycle or $10k in cash. Also the debut of the AMRA STARS Late Model series will kick off their season at the Tyler County Speedway paying $2,000 to win.
