The Bullring Welcomes Back the Hillbilly 100

(Middlebourne, WV) While the kids are heading back to school and summer is fast coming to a close, it’s once again time for fall which means the Labor Day traditional running of the Hillbilly Hundred is here. It’ll be “Almost Heaven” as America’s oldest dirt late model event will be staged at the premier motorsports facility in the Mountain State as the Tyler County Speedway welcomes legendary promoter Carl Short’s Hillbilly Hundred back to the ‘Bullring’ for the first time since 2009.

The Hillbilly 100 is America’s oldest late model major event and a West Virginia tradition for 48 years. It has long been considered one of racing most prestigious national level events. Truly a unique crown jewel event that continues to grow in stature as an old school feel will greet race fans as the racing action, atmosphere and tradition are second to none. The 2016 edition of the ‘Hillbilly Hundred’ weekend (Sept. 3-4) will provide even more jaw-dropping racing action than ever before. The weekend festival of speed features a star studded line up, satisfying even the most speed thirsty race fans on the planet including the Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Series, FASTRAK late models, steel block late models, AMRA open wheel modifieds, Modlites, EDGE Hotmods and 4 Cylinders.

The action gets underway on Friday Night, Sept. 2nd as the Tyler County Speedway will run the five rained out features from Saturday Night, August 20th as well the $5k Sunoco Shootout for all 2016 Tyler County Speedway Super late model feature winners. Gates open at 4pm on Friday with racing getting underway at 7pm. Be sure to enjoy the Friday night after party once the final checkered waves as the ‘Welcome Back Hillbilly 100′ Pit Party featuring Sugabuzz and DJ’ Rockin’ Rudy will officially kick off the Hillbilly weekend. General admission is just $12, while pit prices are $20 for Friday evenings show, the post-race pit party is free.

Saturday Night, Sept. 3rd will see two divisions of late models set the tone for the weekend. The FASTRAK Late Models will roll into town in search of the $5,000 first prize along with the title of ‘Brown Jug 50’ victor. Also on the stellar card will be the always entertaining ‘Hillbilly 50’ for Steel Block Late Models as not only will the regions best steel block racers seek the $4,000 first prize but also a coveted guaranteed starting spot in the next day’s 48th Annual Hillbilly 100. The mighty open wheel warriors of the AMRA Modified division will also square off for a 2k payday and ‘White Lightnin’ bragging rights. Also preliminaries for the EDGE Hotmods, Modlites and 4 Cylinders are also on the stacked Saturday Night sked. Gates open at 2pm with MWRA Mini Wedges getting underway at 6pm, with hotlaps/qualifying to follow.

The 48th annual Hillbilly Hundred presented by Arizona Sport Shirts on Sunday Night, September 4th will feature the cars and stars of the Lucas Oil Dirt Car Series making its return trip back to the ‘Bullring’ that will see the best drivers from all over the country do battle against the most talented regional hot shoes, with an astounding $25,000 up for grabs.

Along with the Lucas Oil Dirt Car Series the EDGE Hotmods, Modlites, 4 Cylinders will run their feature events as well. Plus the Ohio Valley Roofers Legends cars will make their inaugural appearance at the ‘Bullring’. Gates will swing open at 2pm with hotlaps getting underway at 6:30. Two day Hillbilly 100 passes are available at $50 for General Admission, 2 day kids 7-12 just $10 while children 6 and under are free with 2 day pit prices set at $70. Single day tickets are also available each day.

Since the race last visited the Tyler County Speedway, the Hometown Racing Association has added all-new lighting, a new pit tower, new handicap seating as well other improvements throughout the property including additional seating and concessions and a premium suite.

Tyler County Speedway is a lightning quick high bank ¼ mile speedway, dubbed the ‘Bullring’ and regularly features three and four wide racing action.
