May 28, 2018 (Sandy Lake, PA) The Homak Penn Ohio Pro Stock Championship Series season kicks off in less than one week with the two biggest races of the season within weeks of each other. The Ed Laboon Memorial paying $2,017 to-win at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway in Imperial, PA will be the Series opening event on June 2nd followed by the $10,000 to-win Inaugural Steel Valley Pro Stock Nationals at Sharon Speedway in Hartford, OH on June 15th and 16th.

Gearing up for these major Homak Penn Ohio Series events, some series’ drivers have gotten seat time (when Mother Nature cooperates) and reported wins at local tracks in non-Penn Ohio races: 2017 Point Champion, Bobby Whitling captured a win at Tri City Raceway; Thunder Mountain Speedway has had three series’ members in victory lane so far – 2017 Point Runner-Up, Rusty Martz; 2017 Penn Ohio Breakthrough Driver, Andrew Gordon; and series’ member Tim Bish; series’ members, Pat Fielding and Curtis J. Bish parked their pro stock machines in victory lane at Raceway 7; and series’ newcomer Kyle Couchenour captured a win at Eriez Speedway.

The Homak Penn Ohio Pro Stock Championship Series is excited to currently have 59 members for the 2018 season and looks forward to more joining as the season gets underway. Drivers can join the series any time throughout the season and still reap the benefits – a $15,000 point fund with $3,000 going to the point champion, over $13,000 in contingency prizes given away at Penn Ohio events, and over $20,000 in driver prizes given away at the banquet. The cost to join the series is $200 and registration forms are online at http://www.pennohioprostocks.com/2018%20REGISTRATION.pdf.

The Ed Laboon Memorial Race will be the series’ first point race in 2018. Drivers will run qualifying laps to determine heat race starting order with the fastest qualifier getting a $100 prize. A dash paying $100 to the winner will determine the A Main line up. The main feature event will be a 25-lap race, paying at least $2,017 to-win, $200 to start. The Dobs non-qualifier race will pay $717, $100 to start. There will be a $350 award to the leader of the 16th lap in memory of stock car driver, Richard Chess Jr.

No registration is charged for drivers to participate in the Ed Laboon Memorial event thanks to the Vince Laboon and the Laboon Family. The Series as well as the Laboon Family will have contingency prizes to award including but not limited to a Hoosier Tire donated by Precise Racing Products and Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic and an American Racer Tire donated by Lias Tire and American Racer. The Miley Family and PPMS have an important role in making this event a success. Anyone interested in also contributing to this year’s Ed Laboon Memorial Race can contact Vince Laboon by calling 412-396-9138 or email racer17v@yahoo.com.

The series will have a week off between the Laboon race and the inaugural $10,000 to-win Steel Valley Pro Stock Nationals. The June 16th event will not be a full point show for series’ members; as participating series’ members will receive show up points only.

The Steel Valley Pro Stock Nationals presented by Blue Ox Timber will begin at Sharon Speedway on Friday, June 15th with practice, pre-tech, and bonfire/entertainment. Saturday’s festivities will start with group qualifying, giving drivers a chance at the $500 “Shock the Clock” prize presented by Zimmer’s Service Center Inc. Heat race starting order will be based on the group qualifying with an invert four. Drivers will have a chance at additional money prizes by finishing their heat in the top four: 1st pays $100; 2nd pays $75; 3rd pays $50; and 4th pays $25. Heat race sponsors include Gravatt’s Electric & Generators, Crawford Custom Consulting, Close Racing Supply and Shingledecker’s Welding.

Additional sponsors for the event include: E & K Equipment, Wedge Motorsports, Robinson Automotive, ITC Crane, RCR Automotive, Oniboni Construction, SS Chassis & Supply, Slider Race Cars, World of Wheels, NorthStar Unlimited llc., Mills Automotive & Off Road, Les Frickshun, Shaffer’s Auto & Exhaust, Bish Heating & Cooling, R & R Enterprise Auto Sales & Garage, RK Virgile Scrap Metals, May’s Towing, C & R Tire, M & T Allison Construction, Schwartzmiller Ground Maintenance, Alternative Power Source, and The Dirt Network.
