Princeton, WV (August 2, 2015)- Race Recap
A huge field of cars show up to for the UBB Qualifier including cars from NC, VA, and all over West Virginia. Sixty total cars were in the house for a great night of racing action.
The FASTRAK Late Models had twenty four cars signed in for racing action to prepare for the UBB and try to lock into the show through the UBB Qualifier. T.J. Salango set a blazing fast time of the huge field at a 17.537. The three heat races would go to T.J. Salango, Jeff Maxwell, and Henry Hornsby III. The feature event would see all twenty four cars in attendance start the show. Early in the race Maxwell and Salango battled side by side for many laps. The early stages of the race were caution filled. Aaron Barley was patient and began making moves towards the end of the race eventually working his way up through the field. As the race went on though it seemed as no one had anything for Maxwell and he would take the win and the first provisional for the UBB race. Barley would beat a hard charging Shane Greco and a host of others to the line to finish second and also be locked into the UBB race. Greco wound up third. Fourth went to the 10th place starting David Collins Jr. and fifth went to Henry Hornsby III. This was an exciting event of racing all the way through the field with many cars coming and going and tuning up for the Upper Big Branch Mine Memorial race that will be held Saturday August 8th.
The AMRA Open Wheel Modified class had eight cars sign in for racing action. Steve Stover picked up where he was last week setting fast time at at 17.505. He would also win the heat race. Early in the feature Mike Duncan was working his way up through the field after having trouble in qualifying, but lost a drive shafe and his night ended early. Stover just continued his consistency on the night and would easily take the win. Jason Cochran would come home second with Ryan Williams having a strong third place run. Terry Parsons would score a respectable fourth place finish with Kennie Compton rounding out the top five.
The Outlaw Modified Streets had seven cars in the house for the night’s racing action. Kenny Meadows finally got his car dialed in this season. He would take the win in the heat with some great passes to get there. In the feature Meadows looked like he had his cruise control on as he easily sailed to his first feature win of 2015. David Ferreira would have a strong second place finish to extend his points lead over the third place finisher Freddy Mooney who put his small motor in to keep chasing points this week. Kevin Woodall would run fourth and Heather Mollett would bring her car home in fifth in her first race of the year.
The Street Stocks had nine cars sign in for the night’s action. Hank Stover would win heat one with George Pierce taking heat two. Their feature would be one of the best of the night. Stover took the lead early, but then Pierce would get by him and lead several laps. In the end though Stover would get back past Pierce and take the victory! Pierce came home second. Brandon Adkins would come home third and Bobby Mooney had a very strong fourth place finish. Zachery Lilly would round out the top five with a good run.
The Outlaw Mini car count was down a little tonight with some of the regulars having problems and we only saw six sign in for racing action. Jeremy Finley would take the win in the heat race. The feature started off an exciting one with Finley, Tyler Meadows, and Mark Cole all going at it in battle while behind them Tim Black and Cody Neal picked back up right where they were last week side by side. Finley would have problems and that would end his night early. Tonight it was Meadows night as he would beat Cole to the line and take the victory. Cole wasn’t far behind and finished second. Tim Black came home third as Neal had problems and would finish fourth. Even with the problems Finley would round out the top five.
The Mini-Wedge division gets more and more exciting each week. The cars were three and four wide tonight as they raced toward the checkered flag. On lap two Max Price would spin while in the lead and crunch the nose of his car up. They would get lined back up with Price rejoining at the tail. On the restart they fired and raced for the checkered. Price battled back to the front and took his fourth win in a a row. Blake Basham had a strong second place run with Logan Collins having a career best finish of third. Logan Brant finished fourth with Carter Adkins rounding out the top five. Trent Salango finished sixth. Another great show from the Mini-Wedges!
